Touring University of Pretoria and UNISA libraries has further revealed why much emphasis is continuously being laid on the need for digitization of heritage materials and subsequent establishment of institutional repositories shortly called IR. IRs projects the research output of academics in institutions of higher learning to the wider world. it makes access to these information materials much easier and also helps in ranking of institutions from academic and research standing. Let us advocate the meaning and significance of IR in our various institutions, carry our colleagues along and measure up with the trend.
